HRDC, on its own has been delivering high quality treatment and rehabilitation to 13 – 14% of the physically challenged children (20908, as of December 2004) of Nepal from the HRDC Complex, Janagal (near Banepa, a town / sub-municipality of a valley next to Kathmandu) and field follow up program which reaches out the clients to their own home surrounding. Of the total, 5873 physically challenged children have completed the treatment and rehab intervention. This shows that 15035 children are under the rehabilitation care of HRDC. This number is increasing every year as the process of rehabilitation is much slower than current rate of influx. |
High quality and innovative medical intervention, comparable to Shriners' Chain of Hospitals in the US, is being carried out making a difference to lives of physically disabled children with one twelfths of the cost of intervention at Shriners'. This is due to judicious use of funds and innovative ways of human resources. |
Every year HRDC caters to more than 8000 - 9000 physically challenged children. Included in this are more than 2000 new children who come under our intervention every year. |
Uniqueness of the program lies in high quality of tertiary level intervention supplemented by regular field / social rehab service expanded to 20 districts of Nepal. (See the enclosed map showing the coverage). Out of ignorance, many clients supposed to visit HRDC or Camps on elective dates drop out. Then we visit them individually at their homes to convince the importance of intervention. Under this regular home visit program, currently there are 3999 physically disabled children. Also 20 additional districts are covered through mobile health and rehabilitation camps conducted throughout the country. Through these camps we reach out to additional 2000 physically disabled children in different part of the country. |

The HRDC has been accredited by "The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK" through its recognition of training programs with respect to their requirements of the FRCSEd Examinations. (A copy of the letter enclosed with the information package). |
